My research projects are aimed at understanding the perception, experience and expression of emotions, particularly the production and decoding of facial expressions of emotions. I examine the nature of basic, moral and self-reflective emotions, as well as the relationship between emotion recognition and emotional well-being, mood regulation, competence, performance, achievement, adjustment, and moral reasoning across and within cultures. I am also interested in variations in emotional expressions across the lifespan and gender. Presently, I am working on micro-momentary expressions, the relationship between consciousness and spirituality, and emotional expression and the importance of deception.
